Access for All campaign ramps up!

January 30, 2010

The Lib Dem campaign to improve access at Hither Green station was ramped up this week. We gathered hundreds of signatures in support of our demand to open up the closed ramps to platforms 1, 2/3 and 6. Currently anyone in a wheelchair, with a pram, or simply with heavy luggage really struggles to get beyond platforms 4 & 5.

Local resident Paul Crudge (left) has almost given up using the station since he can only get on or off a train that stops at platform 4 or 5.

We think opening up the closed ramps to platforms 1, 2/3 and 6 would help, but in the long term we need works to ensure access for all at this busy station. If you back our campaign, please sign the petition HERE.

It doesn’t make sense to force people to walk several hundred yards more than they need to in order to use the station.

Having recently started to use Hither Green station again after moving back to the area, I think this is really important. I remember a man in a wheelchair having to ask other passengers every day to carry him up and down the stairs in his chair. Not ideal for anyone.
