Meet Pete

On the doorOur community and country are in urgent need of change. We deserve representatives who will listen, not lecture; who will serve us, not themselves. And so it angers me when our elected representatives are loyal to their party, instead of being loyal to us. I believe we deserve better. This is why I want to be the next MP for the constituency of Lewisham East.

I have spent my life in public service; as a local teacher, councillor and campaigner. I have always stood up for those who have the least opportunities and the smallest voice. After four years working with street children in India, I returned to the UK to teach Citizenship education at Deptford Green School, in Lewisham. Life as a teacher has given me a real understanding of the needs of young people and local communities in our area.

Having taught young people about Citizenship and democracy, I decided to put my principIes into practice and was elected as a councillor in 2007. I have worked hard to represent local residents ever since, campaigning on a wide range of local issues; from road safety, to school admissions; and from supporting minority communities, to helping to launch the ENOUGH! campaign to Make Youth Violence History.
